The J. Carlo Cannell Fund (“Fund”) is a Donor Advised Fund which allocates about $30,000 per annum to small 501(c)(3) organizations.
A primary focus of the Fund is to help reform divorce in the United States, specifically as it relates to contested matters of custody where the interests of lawyers are often in conflict with the best interests of young children.
While other charitable missions and geographies are OK, a general policy of the Fund is (i) a belief that, like in the for-profit world, most not-for-profits die young and quickly and (ii) less is more. The Fund invites pitches from hungry and nimble “venture charities”. The Fund believes that these little champions can return the highest benefit per dollar. The Fund will not give to The United Way, for example.
Interested recipients should send no more than a one-page summary and two exhibits to info@thejcarlocannellfund.com explaining: (i) what the need is; (ii) why it exists; (iii) what the solution is; (iv) budget for the solution and (v) why your organization is uniquely qualified to administer the 501(c)(3).
The J. Carlo Cannell Fund is looking to “try before buying” by allocating to about twenty charities and over time, winnowing the recipients to less than five organizations – fewer eggs watched more closely.
